On May 1, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Fumio Kishida in Ashgabat on the sideline of the Sixth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue.
During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues of development of Tajik-Japanese relations in the light of the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to the Republic of Tajikistan in October 2015.The Ministers declared for further deepening of practical cooperation between the two countries in the trade, economic, investment, transport-communication, industrial, energy, cultural and humanitarian fields. In this context, the important role of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation was underlined, the first meeting of which was held on April 14 this year in Tokyo.
The parties highly appreciated the activities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in expanding the Tajik-Japanese relations and noted the significant contribution of the Agency in implementing projects aimed at achieving of the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening the social, economic, transport, energy and investment potential of Tajikistan.
The Ministers expressed satisfaction with the results of the joint work carried out within the framework of the «Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue and outlined further steps to strengthen regional and interregional cooperation during the chairmanship of Tajikistan in the Dialogue in 2017-2018.
An exchange of views took place on the interaction of the two countries within the framework of international organizations and other issues of mutual interest.
