On May 1, 2017, in Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov took part in the 6th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the «Central Asia Plus Japan» Dialogue.
The Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Japan summarized the results of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Dialogue and identified new prospective areas for regional cooperation. In this context, appreciation was expressed to the Government of Japan for the full support of the efforts of the countries of Central Asia to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to solve social and economic problems.
It was noted that the results of the visits of the Prime Minister of Japan to the countries of Central Asia in 2015 marked the beginning of a qualitatively new phase of the friendship and mutual trust between Central Asia and Japan, and the joint implementation of their results significantly expanded the horizons of bilateral and interregional cooperation.
In his statement, S. Aslov stressed the importance of expanding constructive cooperation between the countries participating in the Dialogue in bilateral and multilateral formats. S. Aslov called for the full use of the potential of the Dialogue to strengthen mutually beneficial relations in the trade-economic, energy, agricultural, cultural-humanitarian, transport and communication fields and other areas that are key elements for strengthening regional cooperation, peace and stability. The Foreign Minister of Tajikistan has noted relevance and timeliness of inclusion in the agenda of Dialogue the issues of combating terrorism and prevention of drug trafficking, and assistance to peaceful development of Afghanistan.
At the end of the meeting, the Joint Statement of the Sixth Meeting of Foreign Ministers and the Roadmap for Regional Cooperation in Transport and Logistics of the Dialogue «Central Asia plus Japan» were adopted.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries participating in the Dialogue welcomed the entry of Tajikistan into the post of the next country-chair for the period 2017-2018 and the holding of the next 7th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Japan in 2018 in Dushanbe.
