On September 27, 2017, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Japan Dr. Hamrokhon ZARIFI visited Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, where he met with Director General Mr. Kamei Nobuo and got acquainted with the research activities of the Institute.
At the beginning, the Ambassador was provided with comprehensive information on the activities of the Research Institute and the work of its main departments.
Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Tajikistan visited laboratories of the Institute, where the research is conducted on archaeological materials, preservation and restoration of excavations, paintings and manuscript heritage.
During the tour of the library, where stored rare and especially valuable publications, hand-written books and archival materials, Ambassador was showed an antique book of the XIX century in the original, narrating about the life of the Japanese people of the Edo period in the XVII century.
At the meeting with the Director General Mr. Kamei Nobuo, the sides exchanged views on archeology, restoration of cultural heritage objects, studies and preservation of archaeological findings in Tajikistan. They also touched upon the results of research and excavation of ancient sites of Tajikistan in Kalai Kakhkakha (Kofarnihon) and Ajina-teppa in the framework of projects, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in cooperation with the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Preservation of World Heritage.
The parties expressed their views on the prospects of cooperation with the aim of enhancing ties in new projects and the possibility of further participation of scientists of the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties in the planning and implementation of conservation projects for wall painting fragments and other archaeological materials in Tajikistan.
