On January 26, 2018, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan the 12th Senior Officials Meeting of the member countries of «Central Asia + Japan» Dialogue under the co-chairmanship of the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Nizomiddin Zohidi and the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asia, Ambassador Mr. Toshihiro Aiki was held.
The meeting attended by delegations of Central Asian countries and Japan headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ms. Dinara Kemelova, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Mr. Vepa Hajiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Mr. Saidikrom Niyazhodzhaev, and Director of Asian Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Bakayev.
During the Dushanbe meeting, the parties discussed a range of issues related to the implementation of projects and further development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, exchanged views on cooperation in ensuring regional security, and decided on further cooperation in the field of tourism within the framework of the Dialogue. The announcement of tourism as a new area of practical regional cooperation within the Dialogue has become one of the main outcomes of the Dushanbe meeting.
The meeting also discussed the expansion of the trade, economic and investment partnership between the countries of Central Asia and Japan in various fields.
Republic of Tajikistan assumed the Chairmanship of the Dialogue for the period 2017-2018 in May 2017.
