On the sidelines of the International High-level Conference on International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin.
The meeting addressed issues of current cooperation between Tajikistan and UN and its structural subdivisions.
The President of the country Emomali Rahmon expressed his gratitude to United Nations’ support addressing Tajikistan's initiatives in solution of global water issues.
The Tajikistani side appreciated the role of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in the implementation of Global water initiatives of Tajikistan.
It was hoped that in cooperation with the UN DESA the sides will be achieved in the implementation of the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028», Water in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Water and Development Strategy, the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030 (NDS-2030) and the Medium-term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan through 2020.
The two sides continued the exchange of views on the achievement of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in attracting investments and modern technologies, developing infrastructure, developing effective mass transit systems, and simplification of cross-border trade rules.
During the meeting, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin emphasized the leading position of Tajikistan regarding global water initiatives and highly appreciated the efforts of the President of the country Emomali Rahmon.
While discussion addressed effective use of renewable energy sources, the head of state reaffirmed his readiness on issues of global initiative of the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and the 2014-2024 Decade for Sustainable Energy for all.
