Prime Minister’s Visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. On October 24, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Dushanbe in the Republic of Tajikistan. After attending a welcome ceremony at the Palace of the Nation, Prime Minister Abe held talks with H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan. After the meeting, both leaders held a signing ceremony and a joint press announcement. In the afternoon, Prime Minister Abe first offered a wreath at the Monument to Ismoil Somoni. The Prime Minister then visited the office of the United Nations in Tajikistan, where he offered flowers at a plaque honoring Dr. Yutaka Akino, former United Nations Civil Affairs Officer of the United Nations Mission of Observers in Tajikistan (UNMOT), and other members of the United Nations. After offering flowers, the Prime Minister said, “Having once again reflected on the life of Dr. Akino, who sought to create a world free from conflict, I have renewed my resolve to contribute to world peace.”
