Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi was born on December 25, 1948 in the Republic of Tajikistan.
In 1971 graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kulob State Pedagogical Institute named after Rudaki, and began his career as a lecturer at the same institution. Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi continued his career at the security services of the Republic of Tajikistan from ordinary employee to the post of Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on National Security.
Since 1993, in the diplomatic service – began his career as the Head of Department and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
From 1997 to 2002 Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi served as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Republic of Tajikistan to Austria, Hungary and Swiss Confederation. 2002 to 2006 he served Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United States of America.
From December 2006 to November 2013, Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan. In the international tribunes such as UN and OSCE he defended and protected the interests of Tajikistan.
Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi also chaired international conferences and forums – OIC, SCO, RECCA and others. At 66th and 67th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2011 and 2012 Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi addressed on behalf of the Republic of Tajikistan. From 2007 to 2012 he represented the Republic of Tajikistan to the Council of Foreign Ministers Meetings of OSCE.
By executive Order (Decree) of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan as of August 2015, Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan in Japan.
Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi is an author of a number of scientific articles, books on political science, diplomacy, international relations and Tajik art. Since 2008 Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi published 11 books, edited 22 books, 4 magazines and wrote preface to the various publications.
For the publication of the book “The Tajik Golden Heritage” in eight languages he was awarded by the UNESCO Gold Medal in honour of Mawlana Jalal-ud-Din Balkhi-Rumi for an outstanding contribution to the promotion of Tajik cultural heritage and personal commitment to enhancing international cooperation in the field of intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity.
Dr. Hamrokhon Zarifi has the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and a PhD degree in Political Science. Fluently speaks English, Persian and Russian languages. He was awarded with medals and other state awards, and decorated with foreign awards.
